Bill Wathen and Dick Doré, also known as “The Foxen Boys,” have been making wine together since 1985, when they founded Foxen Winery at the historic Rancho Tinaquaic in northern Santa Barbara County. The Gainey Vineyard was the first winery to own vineyards in both the warm, eastern end of Santa Ynez Valley, where the family concentrates on Bordeaux varieties, and the cool western Sta. In 1971 Sanford Winery and Vineyards discovered an overlooked, grape-growing treasure in the Santa Rita Hills. Recognizing a magical combination of climate and soil conditions much like those in France’s famed Burgundy province, Sanford planted the area’s first Pinot Noir in its Sanford & Benedict vineyard.

Established in 1962 it is the oldest winery in Santa Barbara County and was the first since prohibition which ended in the early 1930s. There were no vineyards, the closest over 100 miles away in San Luis Obispo County to the north. Today there are more than 20,000 acres of grapes in the County and over 100 wineries.

Star Lane Vineyard, located at the far eastern end of the Santa Ynez Valley, is both the warmest and the highest elevation vineyard in the appellation. Star Lane is a quilt-like vineyard with valley floor, bench and mountaintop blocks each planted specifically for that unique site.

The vineyards at the Stolpman estate enjoy the warm days and cool nights of Ballard Canyon, which lies 25 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The combination of climate, southern exposure, and limestone soils makes for a unique terroir suited to growing Syrah, Sangiovese, and Roussanne.

Sunstone Vineyards and Winery is located 30 minutes north of Santa Barbara and is one of the most beautiful wineries and tasting rooms in the Santa Ynez Valley. Sunstone’s tasting room is reminiscent of some of the small wineries in the Provencal French countryside, featuring a kitchen complete with a wood-burning oven and two stone barrel-aging caves built into the hillside. 

Sweeney Canyon

Sweeney Canyon is a small, family owned vineyard in the Santa Rita Hills. Planted and farmed by the Marks family since 1980, it has supplied Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes to many Santa Barbara County wineries. It now produces a very limited selection of Estate Grown wines.

The first Thorne Wine vintage, 2005 Pinot Noir, Rio Vista Vineyard, Sta. Rita Hills was introduced in July of 2007. It is a blend of three clones 777, 115, and 2A. Rio Vista Vineyard was first planted with 26 acres of Pinot Noir in 2001 and with an additional 38 acres in 2006.

Founded in 2001 by Marvin & Paulette Teixeira with the planting of a small vineyard on their cattle ranch. Tres Hermanas (Three Sisters) was named for the couples three daughters, Stacey, Tracey & Marcey. Our label is a picture of the barn that exhibits the JT cattle brand, which was Marvin’s fathers brand used to identify cattle today. The barn still exists on the winery property.
